I listened once and will leave it at that until Friday or a real quality leak. There are some serious overreactions happening here. I do think Something Special and Dark Matter are the two worst.
My initial impression is that if this is better than Gigaton, I think it’s because it isn’t bloated the way Gigaton feels. That said, I think my favorite 8 songs on that record would go toe-to-toe with the best on this one. This feels like a solid record with a couple of stinkers, and the stinkers will get the most plays live, I bet.
I love Gigaton. After two listens on a crappy leak I wouldn't say its better. It's definitely different
Even sticking a turd in my ear would sound better than Gigaton.
Let's find out.

This is what I got. It felt like vs and that same setlist feel from them then.
It’s built that way.
Might be my favourite thing about it.
you were totally right about this; there are even awkward stops and starts like in a live gig
It feels like live pj. At that time.

Can someone attest to the quality of this leak? Is it a straight CD rip quality? If not, I'll pass, but loving all the mostly positive notes I'm reading...

On the contrary, the 'ambient phone recording'-quality effectively covers up all the terrible production choices (which you can still kind of hear, despite all of that).
Yeah. I suspect the production and unnecessary extras are going to get in the way of what sound like good performances.
I'm nervous of the Infallible soundcheck effect happening (to a lesser extent)

Along with the obvious RHCP Can't Stop comparison, I get big Whipping vibe from the React Respond pre chorus

Hell yeah.
I can't believe it hasn't properly leaked yet, btw.

If DM and Running are the weakest points then I'm in for a treat, I love both. I refuse to believe Something Special is actually better than those two...

I might just stick with this version and never listen to the official release.

Sound quality is terrible. It feels like a bootleg someone captured on a hand held tape recorder at an indoor concert. But it gives you the vibes of the songs.

Decided to give this one listen, since by the time there's a good quality leak/the album release, I might be knee-deep in baby admin.
Not as taken with WFS as others. Wreckage is what grabbed me most in the first half, though I think after a few listens I'll miss the fact that it doesn't build to something a bit more. I'm fine with Something Special - the lyrics are the most egregious bit of it. The last two tracks are good.
Gigaton tailed off for me and if I compare how I feel about it now to how I feel about this now, this is handily the better album, but there are signs that make me wary of the long-term appeal.

Early baby admin is mostly about killing time. It's the perfect time to digest an album

Thanks Bluestate and for all of your reactions.
The excitement has heightened to a frenzy for me. I've seen the arc of my personal exhilaration for this album run from:
-Pining at the thought
-Thinking we were close, then disappointment because we weren't.
-A taste with the release of singles and snippets.
-Absolute glory and exhilaration as the week has come, there's a file on my phone should I choose to listen, and terrificly fun reviews and emotions coming from each of you.
Feels like I'm in that space where, errr, "gratification" is inevitable, and immediately achievable, but am just enjoying this feeling so much and that I'll only benefit from holding on until Tuesday night in the theater.
For now, that's the plan and then I'll listen to the iPhone recording on my drive back home from the theater.
I might imbibe too much today and abruptly change course, however. You never know!

I'm trying to put together an initial ranking on crappy boot listen 3, but I can't figure out how to process Dark Matter and Running, since I've had them for so long, and much better quality

Had there not been a pandemic, I wonder how differently we’d view Gigaton now. Waiting two years to have those shows rescheduled was such a boner killer.

I’m not as big a fan of Gigaton on here as most, but it was better than LB and BS. The 20 or so people in the record store with me today seemed to overall agree that this was better than Gigaton as far as its flow and attitude. The sound was decent in the record store but boy howdy am i excited to get this with some headphones
