If you've been reading my lengthy opinions on Matt you'll know that although I think he has several frustrating 'ticks' as a drummer, he is my favourite songwriter in the band. My theory for that (for what it's worth) is that he writes for himself. The songs he creates give him something fun and slightly challenging to do.

I tend to agree with you on Matt. That post was an attempt to be funny with people reacting to no Matt songs on this record like it was some big deal. Anyone know the joke "what's the last thing a drummer said?" "guess what guys, i wrote a song!"

I like Matt songs but can't think of any in the PJ catalog that are essential, but it's still early

*edit - i tend to agree on the ticks. i think he's better suited for a band like SG than PJ, personally

Matts a decent songwriter, not my fav (stone) but I like the fact that most of matts songs are challenging...You Are and Cropduster are both great musically

I agree with this and i would extend this to most of what would be considered interesting song writing in PJ. I don't think his songs while interesting are great songs. I think his songs are perfect filler songs on albums and i don't even mean it as a bad thing.

Evacuation really doesn't get enough love either. That might be my favorite of his PJ songs.

Did we ever find out how long the record is? Or how long each song is?

I might be late posting this, but the latest few comments on the Pit from 'wolkenlos' (Frans):

Benz, that was your vinyl? Haha...we saw that and wanted to steal it, but then it was gone suddenly!

I couldn't agree more with Martin, that's definitely how I felt too. Well, except that I thought from the start that I might like this album better than Backspacer

Sirens & Getaway are very catchy. At least those are the 2 songs that are stuck in my head today. It's funny, yesterday I couldn't remember the melodies anymore but this morning they were back in my head. Chris could play a few chords of sirens on guitar, he might make a little video clip today

And it is really sooo hard, because now that I know the songs I want to listen to them even more, but it's only 38 days if I counted correctly.

The London soundcheck is Infallible, we recognized it straight away today, there is a special melody at the end of the verses or something like that that Chris wrote down & the rhythm is really quite unique to the other songs on the record.

Pendulum might also be one of my favorites, as is Sirens. I want to hear those damn songs again!!! Hopefully they'll leak soon
I wrote that Bleeding Muddy Water by Lanegan reminded me of the song Yellow Moon, I can't describe why, it's moody too. I just had this Lanegan song stuck in my head the whole time while Yellow Moon played, I guess that there might be a similar melody.

Thatd be good to know, what the running time is i mean. I think we all hope its longer than the last.

I'm just really happy the soundcheck song is on the record. Even more happy that PJ fans are digging it. The more I hear, the less it sounds like BS two, and that's all I had hoped for

Yeah, I'm not unhappy with what I'm hearing. It sounds as if the fans of the slow-burner are liking this one more than Backspacer. I'm not going wild with excitement but only because I don't want the comedown if it isn't really good.
