I like that we're talking about Bush more lately on RM.

Is there a term for when you dig someone's music but don't listen to it because their whole "thing" turns you off?

I have that big time with Big Thief, Adrienne Lenker, Buck Meek, etc.

I like it when it comes up on Spotify but their videos make me turn away from the screen.

"Cool music, shitty aesthetic" is the term.

Maybe that's it. I'm trying to think of other bands it would apply to. Maybe I'm just allergic to Big Thief.

I find I like almost all music better -- or at least respond to it more genuinely -- when I hear it separate from visuals of any kind, either music videos or live performances. Most of the time the visuals are distracting and I end up factoring all these nonmusical criteria (usually negative ones, because most music videos are ridiculous and most performers are not especially compelling to watch) into my assessment of the music.

Agreed as far as music videos go, but I do enjoy some live videos, especially the more intimate ones. Watching how the band interacts or how a particular musician physically makes the sounds is interesting to me and enhances my overall appreciation of the music.

But this...I hate this.

Ditto the no music video thing. But I'll second ghost on the live videos. I probably would never have fallen in love with St. Vincent if not for live videos.

I usually prefer studio work to live work overall. But I find live is a good way to get into a new band.

Im guessing you're talking about the dude's exaggerated head jerks. Sure they seem over the top and forced, but I'd feel pretty bad to find out he has a condition or tick of some sort, so I'm staying out of this one!

I believe it's 100% affectation. I've watched his solo videos where he stands still like a normal person.
