Rey was in the last movies. She met Han, Luke, Leia, Chewy, C3-PO and R2-D2. She was in a rebellion against an evil empire.

There is plenty of connections that don't require "I'm related to ________". Especially after Last Jedi already said there wasn't a family connection.

Well it didn’t say that. It said her parents were nobody. This movie took it deeper and developed that without cheapening that “reveal”. I loved last Jedi and was worried they would retcon it completely. I am very satisfied where they went. Also lukes comment to Rey - something along the lines of “your blood line doesn’t matter in this “ further emphasizes what they developed in last Jedi. It’s wonderful.

Poe isn't related to anyone, Finn isn't related to anyone, Rose isn't related to anyone etc. But Rey's role in this saga and trilogy is different. TFA sets that up.

Kylo is a villain in TLJ, and he uses what she fears the most to make her feel insecure. It's not a surprise that he was either lying or clueless.

He wasn’t lying though. He didn’t know the whole truth. You know me - we argued a ton over this stuff in the last Jedi. I am thrilled with how this played out.

It's a bit weird that they said they weren't anybody, because obviously they weren't sith or jedi, but they clearly were somebody involved. However, in Star Wars you have never had to be anybody. Most Star Wars characters come from nothing, or if we know, come from very little. It's not new to TLJ.

I am glad that we are both happy with it. That means JJ and everyone involved did a good job.

Ok, here are some thoughts.
Spoiler: show
My main complaint with the movie is the pace...i understand JJ needs to tie so much, the whole thing is a mess. I blame Disney for this...JJ clearly had in mind a lot of things he tells us here in TFA...then Rian happen and he is forced to spoon us with lots of info...Imagine if Rey discovers she is a palpatine in the second movie? And its Luke who tells her, for example?? My main feel was that, even if some stuff in TLJ is cool, its a waste of a movie.

I liked:
- Palps...i loved him. I love how JJ shows him..those flashes in his face..great.
- Harrison Ford...best scene in the movie?
- JJ did wonders with Leia in this one, specially with Carrie being dead. Great work.
- Finally 3PO was used! i missed him.
- Everything in the sith temple is pretty cool
-They didnt killed Chewie or 3PO or R2.
-I loved that Kylo is dead.

I hated:
- Finn..again...why? All he does is scream REYYY and even her doesnt care about him. Its the Jar Jar of this trilogy.
- Poe...yeah, a failure of a character. Isaacs is not good. Poe is just aggressive and boring for the most part.
-New characters...Zorri Bliss? wtf was that!!! Way to underuse a brilliant performer like Keri Russell! Jannah? too much screen time...
-The scene with Jannah and Finn was awful. Same with her and Lando.
-Pretty much everything with Lando.
-So, the emperor is back guys, dont ask why and how. He is just back.
-Did we know he had a kid? His son didnt have the force? nothing?
-OK LETS FIND THIS SITH TEMPLE THERE ARE TWO OR THREE ITEMS WE NEED TO GET LETS GO NOW!
-I thought she was going to take Palps place and then fight Kylo. I thought woooow yeah! but nope.

ah. the preview that was attached to Mando had what looked like them jumping while inside the ice planet, and the stream coming from the Falcon looked like a 70s/80s action blur.
