I think my biggest problem with the Winter Olympics is that very few of the races are head to head. Robs much of the suspense. It does make short track speed skating even more exciting though.
Yeah, anything head-to-head is way better than just timed. Ski/snowboard cross are always exciting.
Cross country skiing and biathlon has a lot more head to head races now, but many of us miss the classic timed races.
Unfortunately, those events do not get prime time coverage here. They are aired during the work day.

That's why I love short track speed skating. Usually 4 at a time (unless someone gets eliminated for any number of reasons). The womens final a few nights ago at whatever distance, had 5 going at once. Short track is where its at.

And do a lot of things with your hands in between.

It caught me off guard the other day when I heard the Russian team yelling "Sveeeeeep!"
I assumed they all communicated in their native tongues, but apparently curling terms don't need translating.
I've been watching it a lot because my wife and I took up curling this year. It's so much fun and so frustratingly difficult.

woman 1500m gold short speed skating race was... just wow. When
makes her move with 3 laps to go, its like everyone else is standing still. She goes from 4th to winning by a ton! Well, okay it was .08 of a second, but in short track that's a lot apparently.

And Russia which got banned for doping but some athletes were allowed to compete under the Olympic flag, had a male curler get busted for doping?
Does this curler get banned under the Olympic flag now?

Cross country skiing and the biathlon got a lot of love in the M_D household this past weekend. I didn't even need to work out after watching those events.

Nice.
A shame they aren't bigger in East Asia or North America.
