Things that are nice are not necessarily pleasurable--this concept is a pretty basic one, usually taught in Phil 101 if not a high school level reason class.

So it's not hard to see the through line from that sort of oversight to the kind of boneheadedness of fashioning yourself an independent voter or whatever the hell you've drummed up to add distinction to your otherwise doldrum-filled existence and lack of distinct political commitments.
