I read the series was better than the book, which is not that hard. But they are planning to get a second season? That sounds weird.

The finale was marketed as the "season" finale, not the "series" finale, so at the very least HBO is keeping the option open. I haven't heard anything about a second season in development.

I hate little jab cliffhangers like that. It's so cliche at this point. Just end a season. If you have another season, great, we can pick up a story then. But don't do some weak cliffhanger if you don't even know if you are coming back. Hunters really screwed the pooch on this too.
