Mine too!

I went to a fantastic concert with them once. One meter from the vocalist.

Trying to imagine what I even want out of a Pearl Jam "rocker" these days. Something like God's Dice or Get Right would hit the spot. MYM or similar? Not so much. I feel like I'm bound to be disappointed. The title is a lot to live up to.

yup, I want something in the Yield / Binaural / Riot Act ballpark
honestly this song has *so* much riding on it; I think it'll give us a big idea of what aesthetic choices they're making this time, in combo with "Clairvoyants" and "River Cross"

the ‘rockers’ on those 3 albums really don’t have much in common

the yield ones sound huge and aggressive. Binaural’s have that navel gazing quality to them. Riot Act’s sound curiously passive

I was thinking the same thing, not just aesthetically but also quality-wise. For me, there is hardly a rocker on Binaural (except Grievance) or Riot Act (except Save You) that is near the quality of rockers on their first 3 records but Yield has a couple of great ones (Brain of J, DTE). I'm counting GTF as a mid tempo song, otherwise that too.

I am not sure it would be possible to have a rocker of the quality of the first 3 records or even the high points on Yield at this stage. I would like to be surprised and proven wrong.
At this stage, I would take something that is hard rocking but melodic and lyrically darker than the last couple of albums. That should hit the sweet spot.

only that they aesthetically please me and feel emotionally resonant to me; I would raise your "curiously passive" to "tired, resigned and searching", a theme carried over to the ballads of that album; everything before Yield feels like a "younger" band trying (and succeeding) to be cool and kick ass and all the rest; "Yield" has them growing in leaps and bounds through to RA
I would possibly include "No Code" in that set of maturer albums, I'm just... not, for some reason, maybe because it feels like a concerted effort to throw off certain fans, rather than an assertive manifesto of how they would (at the time) go forward
