I liked it a lot more the second time. Damnit, I'm setting myself up to hate it by Friday.

I wonder if this speaks to an album where they really tried to write to the varied musical influences in the band, rather than condense them into 'pearl jam'

I hear talking heads & modest mouse. If you wanted something new & different, I think this is it. I’m not gonna judge it now but once thru and I’m still excited.

Ed was a bit too much to take on the first chorus but by the time the second one came around I somehow got used to it. He sounds like he doesn't give a fuck in both his lyrics and his delivery which is good.
The music is fuckin' ace. I love it.
I listened to most of Stone talking on Sirius and it started out as a Stone/Matt thing I think. Stone played the bass. Then Jeff added the keys and Mike added guitar. He sounded stoked, implied that Jeff gave the thing life.

They played a two minute clip of Stone talking about how this song came together on Sirius

This is an inspired track with dense, moody production and lyrics that cut deeper than almost everything Ed's put forth in quite a while.

They're not fucking back at all; they're headed in a new direction entirely.
Thanks Harmless

My first thought is that with a totally new direction here, we are getting another decade of Pearl Jam.

Or I could be completely wrong and they drop this as their swan song, call it a wrap with a 30th anniversary show in October.

Who knows. See you on tour.

The David Byrne aping is a lot at first - the first minute feels like Talking Heads cosplay. But I like where it gets at the end of the song.

I don't know where I'm landing on the song yet, but I think it's a good sign that they were able to write this song.

“Save your predictions and burn your presumptions” that growl. That is him growling within his aging range. and it sounds so good.
