Also, once some of us start reading this, there won't be any spoilers. It's a book. I'm coming here to talk about it openly

There’s a lot of people I like and trust saying this. Not in a ‘tastes align with mine’ way. Guys that know their stuff and are articulate and passionate even when We don’t agree.

According to a few Youtube videos that regrettably made their way into my feed, this is WOKE SJW GARBAGE! FIRE KATHLEEN KENNEDY and also CANCEL PABLO HIDALGO!

But for real, I want to read this. I've never read a SW book, but I kind of want to get in on the ground floor with this High Republic stuff.

I'm hoping you can get by with only reading the adult novels and not miss out on any important plot points or characters by skipping the comics and kids books. (although I'm not above reading a YA novel)

I started this yesterday and read about the first 10% (according to my Kindle--probably about 40 pages). My priors when it comes to Star Wars books is pretty extensive, but also pretty distant in the past--I read about 50 EU novels in middle school or around there, but nothing much since. I remember them being sweeping and filled with drama and action and intrigue. I am, uh, not sure now, 20+ years later, if either my memory is clouded or if this new book just doesn't live up to those standards. Even just this little bit in, I do find the general plot as something that I'd like to follow and find out more about, but I am just not a fan of the writing at all. Bland, repetitive, and unimaginative. But I will probably keep at this on the side while reading other stuff.

Read the first issue of the comic. Pretty good. Yoda was in it. How far back in the timeline is this era supposed to be?

According to Wookiepedia, 232 BBY. So Yoda is a spry 660 years old or so during this one.

I read the first issue of the comic last night, too, and just FYI, it contains some light spoilers for the novel (I assume--I haven't finished the book).

This has gotten a bit better (about 1/3 of the way through), but boy oh boy, this is an actual sentence from this published book:
“Is that really helpful?” said his copilot, Pikka Adren, second-in-command of the Aurora III and first-in-command of his heart.
