My brother used to collect G.I. Joe figures but only the COBRA stuff. They had way cooler stuff than the good guys. My brothers always bugged me growing up, but I always respected this choice and thought it was cool. I should tell him that someday.

Had an awesome collection of Metal Tonka Trucks as a kid.
Out of the box, nice and shiny and clean:
But, everyone's always looked like this after being left outside:
As teens we would load the cement truck with firecrackers or an M-60 and set them off. The trucks would survive just fine.

i've seen these but i'm pretty sure this is the first post in this thread that makes me feel my age. my friends' little brothers or nephews would play with these.
Toys and cartoons from this era are the perfect illustration of that weird xennial gap from 1977 to about 1983. I remember the toys that Plat is referring to after watching my younger brother get into them, but I have zero emotional connections seeing something like that.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Had just over 300 of these, collected between ages 5 and 11. Got my mother to agree to me hosting a party for me and some friends when I reached 300. Two girls showed up that had a crush on me. They tried to hide with a present of a large bag of candy and love hearts for me, but we saw them first. We ran after them and surrounded them. I did date one of them later that year for three months.
Stopped collecting shortly after. Mostly stopped with kids toys by 12, and converted to video games. Although I did build some lego between 12-15.
