The chorus drags it down for me, I find it a little grating

Specifically the "really really really really" part. The next part is good

Outside of Grimes or Janelle Monet, I don't hear anything interesting or innovative in this new wave of pop stars that frequently get called brilliant. I mentioned in another thread that a lot of it sounds frustratingly reserved and sterile, and some of it sounds downright amateurish.

Billie Eilish might be another exception, but I don't personally care for her sound that much.

Speaking of pop, the new Weeknd album is fucking stellar

No mixtape but there's quite a bunch of albums I love from the past year so it would be interesting to make one, might lean somewhat poppier though

There are pop artists that are talented, or make some good songs. But pop music/chart music in general is the worst. I downloaded the billboard 100 from 2018. Something like 95 of the songs I’ve not heard again.

I don’t think the quality of pop is significantly worse on the average than it is within any other genre. Quality varies wildly no matter what type of music you’re listening to.
