Pretty excited to hear the original master
The broadcast version was incomplete, though, so I'm really looking forward to seeing the whole show.southp wrote:I do wish it wasn't Live and Loud as the live DVD. I've had a VHS tape of that since the day it aired, so it's an upgrade, but not one that I really need to revisit.
Yup..and despite having seen it air back in the day, I haven't owned a VHS tape since 2000.Birds in Hell wrote:The broadcast version was incomplete, though, so I'm really looking forward to seeing the whole show.southp wrote:I do wish it wasn't Live and Loud as the live DVD. Now, I'm reading this as you'll get the remastered album and a disc of extras. Not Steve's remix of the whole record, as that's only part of the CD set, right? This 20th Anniversary 3LP Edition of the unwitting swansong of the single most influential band of the 1990s, features the original album remastered at Abbey Road Studios on 2 LPs and for the first time available at high fidelity 45 RPM, plus a 33 1/3 RPM LP of all the remastered B-sides, never-before-heard mixes and bonus tracks from the original album release. All 3 LPs are on 180 gram vinyl.
Yeah....the original master. Wasn't their a version of Rape Me on With The Lights Out that was the original mix? Sounded a lot better to these ears.Birds in Hell wrote:The original release was the Albini mix with the exception of Heart-Shaped Box and All Apologies (and it's already been confirmed that the original mixes of the latter will be included).
Albini had issues with how they mastered his mixes for the original CD (too much compression and narrowed stereo separation) but that's a different matter.
No, that was an entirely different version recorded with Jack Endino in 1992.verb_to_trust wrote:Yeah....the original master. Tough shit. It's the only show that was filmed!southp wrote:I do wish it wasn't Live and Loud as the live DVD. I've had a VHS tape of that since the day it aired, so it's an upgrade, but not one that I really need to revisit.
Of course. Most of the Rio session appears on "With The Lights Out", but they excluded "Very Ape" & "Scentless Apprentice" which were represented by crappy demo versions. I'm guessing that both of those will be in the "In Utero" box.its_not_1974 wrote: Have the Rio sessions (where they covered seasons in the sun) ever surfaced/exist?
Huh, I played the shit out of WTLO and never realised that. Thank you kindlyWendy Carlos's Twin wrote:Of course. I highly doubt that. Besides, it didn't need to be a full show. It would've been nice to do something like Touring Band with songs taken from different performances.Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:Tough shit. No, seriously, there is no other In Utero-era performance that was filmed in full.southp wrote:I highly doubt that. Besides, it didn't need to be a full show. No doubt they are saving other soundboard recordings for possible later release and the format with the Nirvana 'vault' releases so far has been DVD and audio of the same shows i.e. Reading 92, Paramount 91.Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:I wonder why there's nothing from Seattle '94? Instead we get a repeat of the Live & Loud audio.
While it can be frustrating as a fan... I kind of like this aspect of Nirvana... The fact that there are so few pro-quality shows out there just adds to the 'legend' in a way.Birds in Hell wrote:No, seriously, there is no other In Utero-era performance that was filmed in full.southp wrote:I highly doubt that. Nirvana weren't Pearl Jam, their shows were never assiduously recorded by the band. Even as far as audio, only a handful of shows were multi-tracked, so the pool of shows that could be mixed for professional release is relatively small.
