This is a good post and I think mostly right. I balk a bit at the idea that setting isn't necessary for the genre (Westerns, I mean). I need to think about that.

This is why all good movies are heist movies, they maintain the necessary narrative role of work in a post-work context.

Would you consider the fractions of cents heist scheme in Office Space to have been “work”?
