I don’t get why I irrationally wait until the gas pump asks me if I want a receipt so I can press “no” instead of just leaving. For some reason I think I need to do that to complete the transaction, lest someone pull in after me and get free gas on my dime.

Next person that pulls up to the pump doesn’t have to press no. You’re doing the right thing.
