you're right. i was misreading what is really just a descriptive statement.Anders wrote:No one said otherwise. With Wes Anderson it is clearly on purpose.Malloy wrote:realism is just one of many modes of representation in art. it’s no better or worse than any other — it simply has a different set of conventions.Anders wrote:His style makes every other movie seem more real. It doesn’t matter if it’s the Coen brothers, who are also quirky, Lynch, who is weird, or popcorn Marvel movies, no one beats Wes Anderson in levels of fake.
put another way, all of this shit is fake, most of it is entrenched in an industrial system that is wildly removed from most realities, and the end result is a projection on a giant screen in a dark room
Wreck-It Ralph clearly doesn't go for the realism route, yet still it's a great movie. La vita è bella is all too real, but yet it wraps this horrible topic into a comedy with an almost magical twist to it. When I consider a Wes Anderson movie to be poor, it's for a mixture of reasons, not simply because it looks the way it does.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
