And also trying to figure that out while still grieving my last cat, who was such a perfect angel who made that connection immediately clear upon meeting her.

Also, some of the shelter volunteers were really obnoxious and kind of ruined the experience. We actually kinda thought we were connecting with one cat, and even went back a second time thinking we might put an application in, but a fucking volunteer horned in our second visit, completely threw off our dynamic with the cat, and weirdly kinda talked us out of adopting it by insisting it was aggressive and unpredictable even though he was nothing but sweet and affectionate with us? I dunno. It was a very weird experience.
fk man, sorry to hear

and i missed the post on June 9th, my condolences

seems to me like you have not had that 'aha' connection with a new candidate yet

no need to force it

plenty of time to make the right choice

Sounds like an awkward situation for sure. There's no harm in taking your time. You'll get there, bro.

That is really weird, maybe don’t listen to them next time and go with instinct, you probably understand cats more than they do. we adopted a cat once and he was mislabeled as a girl in the system. You and your partner obviously are great cat parents so what ever cat you do choose, their personality will grow cause of the environment you create for them :heartbeat:

Thanks, guys. This is all reassuring to hear. I was feeling really down over all this but getting some outside perspective definitely helped.

That's tough Jordan I feel ya. Can I make a suggestion? You could look into fostering through a local shelter or rescue group. You'd be providing a temporary home for cats while they wait for adoption. It's low-commitment and the rescue usually covers essentials. It lets you spend real time with a cat in a home setting and if you end up forming a bond you have the option to adopt. That could be a gentler way to ease into the idea of a new companion while also helping out kitties in need.

Just a thought

you could also consider a similar program, but fostering RMers in your home, instead of cats

This is actually a really good idea but my wife doesn’t seem very open to it, I think she’s afraid of getting her heart broken if she fosters a cat she falls for but then can’t adopt. But definitely something to think about.

Meet my new baby girl, Prisma. She’s a refugee from the Houston floods. She’s a year old and already seems very happy in her new home. She arrived at the shelter the day after my previous lady, Ozma, passed away.
