Glad you liked it, wease. I didn't go in with super high expectations and I was blown away.

When I do use subtitle, I prefer them to be yellow

One of my favorite scenes was the reporting crew on the roof of the building while Godzilla was attacking the city. Little things like that, the lead scientist’s hair, and Godzilla’s facial features were a nice tribute to the original Godzilla movies. Really loved that stuff

Exactly. And setting it in the 40s was a master stroke. Just perfect.

I only had expectations raised by what everyone else was saying about it. It lived up to them and more.

All of them were in this movie, if you think about it. Huh? HUH? Satire.

Anyway, my whole family enjoyed this. My oldest son (16) even claimed he “read the whole thing.”
Proud moment.

I have never been into Godzilla movies so any Easter eggs are lost on me. I do agree with Ruddo that the lead scientist’s hair was perfect. Loved that. Loved the main dude’s girl. She gave me real Kumiko from Karate Kid II vibes. The visuals and sound are phenomenal and the setting is perfect, but the ending couldn’t have been more predictable. Didn’t detract from my enjoyment though.

You know what did? Selfish assholes bringing young kids who can’t even fucking read. Eat my entire ass!

I think I’ve seen 7 or 8 movies in the theater this year. It’s in the top half. It’s nowhere near Indy for me (Ruddo, you can eat any of the ass leftovers).

Also, I get Blue Viper’s point. Hop off, Joseph. You do miss shit when you’re reading. I watched Dark with overdubs instead of subtitles. You lose the subtleties of good acting, but the Japanese are so hyperbolic it might be a good thing here.

to think original language is not a part of acting and that if you read subtitles you miss some part of it is cute but kinda when you see a very dumb kid say something and then you realize he is older than you thought.

And the cuteness turns into embarrassment. Soon you want to be as far away from that kid as you want.

Dudes if you cant read a subtitle quickly, well... mmm.

I don't know why so many of you feel the need to insult people who don't like subtitles. People's minds work differently. I don't mind subs, but I do find them a little distracting - more so when it's English captions on an English language show or movie. It throws off the rhythm of the dialogue - this is especially bad with comedies where timing is everything.

I plan on seeing The Boy and The Heron on Tuesday and I intend on watching the dubbed version. Ghibli do a great job with their dubs.

I remember watching Squid Game and finding some of the dubbed voices to be very silly and distracting, so maybe I would have preferred thet subbed.

Yeah most ghibli dubs are really good. Porco Rosso is especially great

Animated with dubs is more passable in general. The mouth movement rarely matches the voice in the original language anyway!

Live action, not so much. Unless the dub is so bad that it's good.
