There were several influences, but to some degree, Star Trek was one of them. Of course only a relatively minor one, and SW was not ‘based on’ ST.

Wouldn't you just watch a different movie under those circumstances?

I'm really poor at this type of pun, so I asked ChatGPT for help. The best it came up with is that this film is a "Zack-tastic masterpiece"

This is so bad.

I’m only half way so it might just be so bad it’s good. But I think it might even fail that low bar.

You can stop pretending to like this movie now, Argo. This has gone on for long enough!

I mean, it is very definitely and obviously not trying to be original. It's well known this started as basically a Star Wars spec script but that that didn't pan out. So what? Change a couple names and Snyder can still make essentially that same movie. Snyder's not trying to tell an original story. It is undisguisedly a Seven Samurai plot. It uses that standard framing to do whatever it wants with the little details.

So to criticize it for being unoriginal or derivative is kind of beyond the point. Snyder designed this movie to be unoriginal and derivative...which kind of gives him space to go for broke being weird with his odd colors and frequent slo-mos and melodramatic hero shots and freaky little villains.

It's a word that has come up in A&E recently with regards to the new Matrix, Beau is Afraid, maybe some others. indulgent

I dig it

It kinda had them all being really serious. Then like they decided it wasn’t working and they decided lean into being really camp? But it didn’t work?

I’ll watch the next one. April I think it said?

Can see how it might have been a Star Wars but can see why lucasfilm turned it down

I tried to watch part 2 last night and couldn't get through 15 minutes. Maybe I was too tired, but it seemed really bad.

I never saw part 1, and came here to see if I should binge this. I guess not.
