related question - is the 'you're hurting yourself...' sequence a pre-chorus or the first part of a longer chorus?

Not sure where I'd rank it yet among openers, but this song grew on so hard today on my first car listens. It gives me a Breakerfall / Insignificance vibe.

I'll keep repeating this until someone agrees, the stereo panning of Mike and Stone on this is just the best. With headphones I can hear them having this amazing conversation with one another.

Re: Scared Of Fear
Life Wasted is indeed a fantastic track. I think the main riff and outro solo are better than Scared of Fear, but Scared has a better bridge (Incredible) and the better chorus.

I had life wasted as a top 10 catalog song for a while. Way too early for me to put any DM songs up there.

Re: Scared Of Fear
Holy shit, this song!
This is full circle PJ. Stone begins the PJ journey with his tasty riffs, Ed takes over the direction with his more hard driving tendencies... 30 years later, we get this song

One of the most viscerally haunting bridges in the catalog, my friends. Made the hair on my neck standup.

love how Ed goes from...
we had our own scene

we were own our scene
don't know why, but that makes me smile. maybe because PJ was one of a few bands that came from the "Seattle Scene." it's like a little callback.

Re: Scared Of Fear
I'm sure a Stone riff would have sounded great here, but, the fact that he chose to basically write a riff comprising chords is so amazing and off-kilter.

We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Bumped my initial 4 up to a 5....this is an incredible opener and i might even prefer it to Who Ever Said.
