MFS also sounds like A Crow Left of the Murder Incubus  It makes me wonder if they listened to them in preparation for meeting that dude's girlfriend.

Yeah, I'm listening to this one now and my reaction was largely "oh, so they did that with it, huh?"

It might grow on me, I don't know.

That was my first reaction but its grown on me. I got over how I wanted it to be and ended up enjoying it...

Still not my choice of direction but its good

Without putting too many chips on my impressions from that vignette, to me this song is a great example of Pearl Jam using the pop song idiom to try things (sound effects, instrumental fills, etc.) that are genuinely new to them, exploring that arena of music's potential for creativity and artistry, as opposed to just running the types of things they've been writing for years through the Brendan O'Brien hit-o-matic. I actually like the chorus a lot, though I guess it's more of an "anti-chorus" of sorts, a harmonically awkward ramble serving primarily to set the stage for the transition back into the main groove. Big fan.

The backing vocals are sounding a bit Jars of Clay. Not a major problem but it's a bit overdone.

True story: I accidentally bought a Jars record on iTunes once, and now every time I get a new computer it tries to redownload

It was so bad. So very, very bad.

Indeed. I expected something different and was disappointed at first. It keeps getter better to me.

I love this. It does have that incubus/Our lady Peace/pop chorus but I enjoy pop melodies.
There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.

damn it. i really like the music in the verse, but eddie vedder sounds like he's trying to make it a classic rock song in the chorus, when thats not really what it needs.

I can see Paul McCartney leading a crowd full of pensioners in an arm waving *moment* during the chorus of this.

I hate Paul McCartney.
