i don't know if it was targeted at my comment, anyway, the chorus in LTRP sounds like it could be featured in an 80s pop song amirite? i just happen to dislike the sound of it, major 7ths are nice and all but this is not the context in which i find them "entertaining". i think that it neuters the punch the chorus might have had and i presume that it's for the sake of 1)sounding original or 2)paying hommage to that very time period to which i'm not attached. there was some nice music made in the 80s but there was also a lot of soulless crap that went on being very popular. nostalgia doesn't make this era any better for me.

I agree, and the post wasn't meant to be reactive. I was just curious. A lot of PJ stuff is described as '80s' when people don't like it. If people can justify why they feel that, it's fair enough. I do think PJ (especially Mike, maybe Stone) is interested in a lot of 80s crap.

If you play all four songs at the same time, you get the Perfect Strangers theme song.

Got Some is a song that pretty much evokes the 80s and i really like it (but then, it's a Jeff song )

I'm sorry you're having trouble shielding your eyes from the truth im laying down.
You really dropped the ball at "than Supersonic ever did." That song is what the term "b-side" was invented for.
Supersonic is straightforward, does what it says on the tin etc. Not hugely exciting but fits the album sufficient as filler. This feels like one of those experiment songs that never really got off the ground, a 'hey look what we also tried, fun right? Maybe?' Track. But it doesn't really matter I guess. Not until the inevitable outtake leak in 5-6 years anyway.

You say "Supersonic works as filler" and yet at the moment, this song doesn't serve as "filler" because there's no album surrounding it. Supersonic doesn't really work in any way whatsoever on its own, and certainly wouldn't have sounded good on a sampler.

I gave it a two. The first 10 seconds and the solos are good. I just have a strong dislike for clean, happy, soulless blues.

It's the chorus here that's killing me. Bleurgh.

They've even accentuated it with the way they mixed it especially the guitars have a vintage sound with lot's of reverb reminiscent of something from '66-'68.
This is why i think the chorus saves it, paradoxically, because it's the only part that isn't parodying what already was nearly a parody of the blues.

It's starting to remind me of Primal Scream, who will sound really dirty and bluesy until the kind of glam chorus. But there always was glam here.

I'd go with this. Primarily the song isn't blues, it's T.Rex/Deep Purple/glam.

Totally. Maybe if he does, you'll grin and it'll look as if he's aware of its cheesiness, and so the song will get better. But meeeeeh it won't happen.

That could well be it... That said, Earnest Ed would also make me laugh
