I have at least 2 copies of every album (just on CD, not counting vinyl) of every one of their albums except Backspacer. I only own 1 CD copy and 1 vinyl copy of that guy.

And I still haven't ordered the CD copy of LB, only the vinyl. Maybe I should put a little fixin' on that.

Fine, I'll go order the CD, too. They have a 10C version, right?

How come posters like Chud and Heathen have essentially the same viewpoints on the band as me but i'm the gold standard?

Ooooh! I had no idea what he meant by that. Makes sense now.

It may be down to frequency of negative posts recently.

This has about a zero percent chance of happening.
No, but i would be happy with the 2 2 2 2 4 set up that was mentioned earlier, and that would also get the variety in the songs because Im sure they all would write slightly different

Oh, I'd be more than happy with that breakdown. But I can dream.

Also, anyone know if we have had a thread listing who wrote which songs from all the albums?

now that our fandom has survived the backspacer era, it probably can't get lower than it's @ right now. that's my theory.

I kind of applied my own criteria to it, but I voted 4.

I'm not sure I would classify my fandom as "faithful" or "a state of love and trust"; I am not overly optimistic for "Lightning Bolt," but that's just because we've already heard three songs (three songs that the band presumably views as key tracks) that more or less did nothing for me. This is really the first time I've had this indifferent of a reaction to new Pearl Jam material, and I'm not sure if it's because I've just gradually become worse at kidding myself about the direction the band is taking, or because there's been such a lull in activity since the last record, or because I've been into so many other things lately, or because the songs really just aren't very good -- chances are it's some combination of the above, but for whatever mixture of reasons I don't have a great deal of optimism regarding the future output of the band. I wouldn't call it cynicism; I'd leap at the chance to be pleasantly surprised. But turning a blind eye to obvious signs of decline within the band, both as artists and performers, has become increasingly difficult.

That said, I think I will always have a certain "base level" of fandom that will remain unaffected by any new record, or by any decrease in performance capacity, or whatever. Most of my favorite artists have catalogs comprised of highs and lows, and in the end Pearl Jam will be no different. The weak moments don't retroactively nullify the great ones, and while I do find my enthusiasm for certain artists rising and falling based on how I feel about their current work, it's rarely what determines how I feel about the overall body of work in the end.

When I was 21/22 I lived and breathed everything PJ and have held on ever since. However, being now 42, I am concerned slightly about my sex drive.

I think Lightning Bolt (the song) is phenomenal. Mind Your Manners (poor title) is much better than WWS and The Fixer and Future Days, well, the album version may be a pleasant surprise. I am stoked for Yellow Moon, Swallowed Whole also. I'm very happy to have new music after 20 plus years. Lastly, Let it Ride was a sweet 2013 cherry (thats when I first heard it anyway) so I am happy.

For the record, I voted a 4... but the fact that I'm even invited to vote on whether or not the next record should define my PJ fanhood or my loyalty to this band after 22 years is really pretty fuckin' stupid and actually I'm kinda pissed at myself that I took the bait and voted when I should have just said "Fuck this shit! The next album doesn't DEFINE what this band has meant to me for 20 plus years!"

Btw, this opinion is not an attack on the OP who I actually have a lost of respect for and is one of my favorites on RM....

People are nicer to you when you're handsome. Doesn't explain chud though.
