i liked it. while the storyline was great how they tied in all the "test" bombs.

the one thing i question is they say godzilla is 385 feet tall and he sure looked taller than that

the CGI was awesome but i yearn for the day a type of movie like this doesnt have to take place at night/rain to compensate

seeing this in a few hours. I have no particular attachment to Godzilla or love of disaster movies, so we'll see.

Will I like it more or less than Pacific Rim?

There's one specific moment where you'll geek out like crazy, especially if you grew up watching the originals.

im not sure of your opine on pacific rim

i liked it because although they did not explain any of the "monsters" origins you did understand why they did what they did.

I liked it. I didn't love it. The first half of the film moved pretty slowly, and why I wasn't bored and like slow builds, I wasn't really dragged into anything either. The final hour or so of the film (the battle in San Fransisco) was spectacular and worth the price of admission. I cared way more about Godzilla than I did any of the robots from Pacific Rim. The way Godzilla killed that final monster was also really awesome. I think my big problem was that the human elements in the story felt totally disposable--like they were inserted in because there needs to be something we can relate to to bring perspective to a conflict that is beyond our scale, but I just didn't really care about what happened to any of those people.

yea agree with stip on the human element part.. like i hoped they lived but if they died i was like oh well.. maybe it was their horrible acting i dunno.. i love elizabeth olsen and all, but i hope she takes acting lessons between now and the filming of the major parts of avengers 2
Spoiler: show
also, how the far could that little piece of shit boat possibly have traveled in a 5 minute span

We're on vacation and saw this yesterday to kill some afternoon time, and it was perfect for that sort of thing. There were some silly points, for sure, but that added to the fun.

I'm sort of ambivalent.

I suppose this type of story just needs a new approach. In a world where every other movie has giant monsters or robots, the best a by-the-book monster movie is going to be is a little bit of shoulder shrugging fun. You need to find a new way to turn it, or to catch people off guard. But the human characters were so weirdly irrelevant to the unfolding of the story, and there seemed to be so little reason to give a shit about them, that there wasn't any room for a new approach. I honestly don't understand why they couldn't have just had Cranston's character be the focal point of a better told story....especially if they wanted this long tension-building first half without an overabundance of in-your-face Godzillaing. It would have saved them from a lot of the convenience-based plot point stuff that became necessary to keep the new characters in the action.

Fun. Great looking. Forgettable. On a scale of Into Darkness to Winter Soldier, I give it two and a half Shadow Recruits.

I really enjoyed it. I thought there was just enough monster scenes. I thought the cgi for Godzilla was done nice but for the MUTOs seemed a little different.
Spoiler: show
Brian Cranstons character was basically pointless, but it didn't bother me.

The way Godzilla killed the second monster was great. Also, I know it was cheesy but I loved when the main character and Godzilla stood there and made eye contact
Also, the score was really great.

Only 1 frown!? I'll have to check it out then. I was expecting 6 or 7 frowns, minimum.
