"When he appeared on the Jonathan Ross show earlier this summer, he'd been vintage Williams – hyperactive to the point of deranged, ricocheting between voices, riffing off his internal dialogues. Off-camera, however, he is a different kettle of fish. His bearing is intensely Zen and almost mournful, and when he's not putting on voices he speaks in a low, tremulous baritone – as if on the verge of tears – that would work very well if he were delivering a funeral eulogy. He seems gentle and kind – even tender – but the overwhelming impression is one of sadness."

This one hurt.
There's always a sting when someone you like & admire dies suddenly even if you did not know the individual personally. And I think everyone here liked Robin Williams at one point in their lives. I know he had heart issues and that was my immediate thought when I heard the news last night. I know he had relapsed but the drugs and alcohol was secondary in mind. Then I heard it was suicide & that he had been going through severe depression. And that stung even more.

Man. I am totally sad about this. I knew he had some demons but a part of me just thinks "hey man, youve made it this far, you got this"
A high school friend of mine deal with his dads suicide recently. He was maybe 70 years old and had beat cancer. Battled with depression and went through a divorce and apparently that was enough.
So heart breaking.

I think it's probably the opposite.
When it's a part of who you are...when it's just everywhere and everything...then maybe you reach a point in your life where you think, "Okay, that's been enough. I've hung on, for children or wife or friends or whatever, for a long time...but now it's time to look out for me, and I just want to rest."
Suicides...especially male suicides....trend very young and very old.

I never forget his role from Good Will hunting. He gave such a masterful perfomance. You knew as you were watching that he was finally gonna win the oscar after being nominated 3 other times.

that's true. i've gathered all of the ire i've directed at various RMers over the years, and focused it entirely on stip. i think it's healthier that way.
