I can definitely see where you're coming from. And you're not even really wrong. For example, I don't patronize Chick-Fil-A or Hobby Lobby because I don't want my money to go to supporting their causes. So I guess that just makes me a huge hypocrite, haha. But honestly, I've never really looked at paying money to watch a movie as supporting the filmmaker - I'm just paying to be able to see a film I might enjoy. But if I think that, then shouldn't I just be able to pay for a chicken sandwich I might enjoy at Chick-Fil-A too? Fuck, man. I don't know.

Like I said, I've never been able to reconcile this shit, even after thinking about it for years. It's a fucking hornet's nest. I just don't fucking know. I just can't imagine my life without Polanski's films in it; they mean so much to me and informed so many of many cinematic sensibilities. The waters of this issue couldn't possibly be any murkier for me.

I think i could accept this response if you could point me to where Roman Polanski saved a million antelopes. Dev told me one of his movies could do that.

What if Loathed doesn't pay for the film, watches it, and it enriches his life in any way whatsoever. Maybe it makes him a better person?

This is valid only if its impossible for a non-rapist's films to do the same.

so what should we tell him? Hey this polanski movie will probably help you cope with whatever you are going through(for example) but you should keep looking and see if you can'y find another movie that will effect you on the same level before you let yourself watch the movie by polanski. putting this into application is absurd.

Are we that fragile that we'll simply fall apart from the burden of whatever we're going through if we don't have the perfect movie to help us cope with it?
