Tried this new place today. Was ok, but the meat was a little dry.

Rank the delicious Middle Eastern and/or European wraps:

1. Shawarma
2. Gyro
3. Doner

Im eating a shawarma right now and its so fucking good.

As a person of Lebanese descent*, I find the concept of pickles in shawarma gross

I'm ashamed to admit I've never done any canning or pickling. I'll make it one of my 2017 resolutions to change this.

It's easier than you would think. I won't dirty up Jorge's thread with pickle talk after this, but use a champagne grape based white vinegar and it's bomb.


And do not intermingle your Shawarma into the pickles.

Observing shawarmaturday for the first time in two years

I think I've only ever had doner, which is obviously amazing. I really need to educate myself on the differences between doner, shawarma and gyro.

My local Turkish restaurant uses the terms doner kebab and shawarma interchangeably. Truthfully I'm also a bit iffy on the difference.

But both shawarma and doner are roasted on a vertical spit, aren't they?

Yup.

I thought the difference is primarily where they are from? Turkey vs. rest of the middle east?
