I oddly enough really enjoy My Lucky Day (which is treated like Supersonic over on the Bruce boards). The Wrestler is great if you want to count it. What Love Can Do is cool. I absolutely Life Itself and think it's one of his more underrated late period songs.

(Also, I have moments when I like Queen of the Supermarket...but mostly cause I used to have a big crush on this girl who worked at the Publix by me...I can't help it...)

I probably haven't listened to the record in entirety since the first six months it was out though. But then again, Wrecking Ball didn't have a great amount of long terms staying power with me either (outside of Land of Hope & Dreams).

I'll admit that I have a soft spot for "Working on a Dream," as it came out a couple days after my first daughter was born, and I'll always remember sitting up with her at night during her first week home and listening to it on my headphones, or softly in the background on the stereo. A handful of those tracks have that airy, sing-songy quality not uncommon to children's songs--I remember at least a few times walking her around the house singing her some self-penned nonsense set to the tune of "Surprise Surprise" to calm her down. I probably like it a bit more than "Wrecking Ball" overall actually, though "Wrecking Ball" probably has higher highs (I think "We Are Alive" is one of the best songs he has ever committed to disc).

(Odd that this would come up today, as later today we're heading to the hospital to meet that little girl's younger brother )

Great story though I still don't like Working On a Dream that much. Basically, happy doesn't work for Bruce, as an overgeneralization.

Do we have any sort of count on how many female love interests in Bruce's songs have names that end with "y", "ie", or "i"?

Isn't that like asking how many times Bruce used "mister" as filler to flesh out a lyric?

As much as some of his best songs are found after he really found his own thing, I reeeealllllyyyyyy miss the Van Morrison influence.

'Course, we could all use a little more Van Morrison influence in our lives.

Especially around here--I've long thought Van Morrison was one of the most regrettably undiscussed artists on RM.

There's a reissue of "Moondance" coming out this fall, apparently Van is livid about it.

Well, "Glad Tidings" was a long time ago. Since then they've sold him out, put him in a goldfish bowl, slandered him in a new biography, etc. etc. It's tough being Van Morrison.

In all seriousness, though, Van doesn't have the rights to his first few albums and he's miffed that they're going over his head on it.

Almost literally every single artist from the 60's is in this exact same boat. Van has an extra helping of bitter about it.
