This is a thread about David Letterman. And this is a thread about David Letterman. And never the twain shall meet.

Warning: Paul Shaffer are playing in the original (correct) timing and key. Eddie is doing something else.

They manage to pull it together near the end.

I actually thought that was great... nice to hear without 30,000 yahoos singing along, all filled with dramatic pauses and shit. Paul & his band were on fire! Ed broke a string and lost his shit near the end, and I'll just chalk the bad suit and hair up to it being a special occasion.

:bammer:

So the odds on Ed being bald by the time the next album comes out?

Also what was he doing during that beginning bit? Like Sarge said - they managed to pull it together at the end, but the beginning was awful

Guys I'm confused, I always thought Betterman was an extremely depressing song about being stuck with a sad sack of shit...?

Oh wow, that was depressingly bad.

Why is he constantly singing off-mic lately (I know, cause he can't stay in tune).... But why has his voice deteriorated so badly?

And bodysnatcher is right... It's a sad, dark song... Not a rocking anthem. Dammit.

I mean, depressingly bad... Really, guy?

and Betterman USED to be a sad, dark song, but... it's been played like a rocking anthem for AT LEAST ten years now... much longer than that, really.

and Eddie's a 50 y.o. heavy smoker, heavy drinker, been belting it out for about 30 years .. what the fuck do you want?!

Yes, it left me depressed. And come off the holier than thou bent.

Vedder is, imo, the greatest lyricist AND singer of his generation, if not all time. Pearl Jam is my absolute favorite band. But I won't apologize for being disappointed in that performance.... It just makes me sad is all. He was out of tune and pace at basically every possible point he could be.

Yes. He's going to look like Billy Corgan by the next album.

Yeah, everyone's disappointed in everything here and I get that, but this guy's a paradox... Greatest singer of all time? And he said IS, not used to be... HIS ABSOLUTE FAVORITE BAND!!!! Imagine the expectations from this guy... the pedestal he has put these aging rockers upon... I guess I've lowered my bar a little over the last decade or so.

and the CBS Orchestra carried the performance in monster form
