The Pixies introduce new bassist at surprise Echo Park gig

In her place at the Echo Park venue was Kim Shattuck, best known for her work with the Muffs and the Pandoras. Is it heresy to suggest that the blindfolded wouldn't have known the difference? Perhaps, but as someone who's been with the Pixies since the first EP, I bought in from the get-go, with a few obvious reservations.

We are delighted to announce that Pixies will be adding an extensive North American Leg to their 2013-14 World Tour.

The North American dates, which will take in 33 cities over two months and starts in Toronto on January 15th, will see support provided by Fidlar (Jan. 15 – 29), Cults (Jan 31 – Feb. 11) and Best Coast (Feb. 13 – Mar. 1).

The video for new track 'Andro Queen' was conceived and directed by filmmaker Ondi Timoner through her Interloper Films production company.

Timoner won the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary Features at the Sundance Film Festival twice and has work permanently displayed at New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

I have tickets too. But we're going to Costa Rica in February and it might interfere with my Pixies date...hopefully not though.

Their new EP is very inoffensive. That's not exactly a compliment, but it's very easily digestible.

Pixies’ 2013 - 2014 global tour schedule continues to escalate with a series of major South American and European festival performances now confirmed for next Spring and Summer. The band - Black Francis/vocals, guitar, Joey Santiago/guitar, backing vocals, and David Lovering/drums, backing vocals - will kick off the festival season in late March in South America with headline appearances at Lollapalooza Chile, Lollapalooza Argentina, and Lollapalooza Brazil, as well as Colombia’s Festival Estereo Picnic. Pixies will then head to Europe for a series of major festivals that begin May 30 when they headline the Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona, Spain. Tickets for all of these festivals are on sale now at www.pixiesmusic.com/new

Joining the Pixies as touring bassist for the North American, South American and European summer concerts will be Paz Lenchantin (A Perfect Circle, ZWAN, The Entrance Band). “We are really looking forward to playing with her on these dates,” said Lovering. “Working with different bass players is very new for the band, but we’re having a great time doing it.”

Pixies also unveil a brand new music video today for EP-1’s track “Another Toe In the Ocean.” Completely different from the band’s recent music videos, “ATITO” is a 2-D animated clip that was written, directed and animated by Liviu Boar of the Romania-based ReeAnimation. Check out the video here :
