Notably, it's a bit of a non-starter to bring up Daredevil in this conversation because that movie failed because of the team making it (the same team that went on to make Ghost Rider). Affleck was collateral damage.

Also, the argument about someone with star power as Bruce Wayne being a good choice as a foil to upstage and humble Clark Kent (a relative unknown to audiences) has good traction.

I don't think it's as simple as "Affleck was collateral damage".

Yeah, there were a lot of bad things about DD, but the blandness of the leading actor was one. He just didn't do Matt Murdock or DD at all well. I guess we'll never know how he could've worked with a great script, though.

I was listening to Hollywood Babble-On this weekend and they mentioned how the news was all over the place and some large sites - like Rolling Stone - were reporting on it. But then they said that the announcement is going to be after Breaking Bad ends and that's a weirdly specific kind of date for an announcement.

I was listening to Hollywood Babble-On this weekend and they mentioned how the news was all over the place and some large sites - like Rolling Stone - were reporting on it. But then they said that the announcement is going to be after Breaking Bad ends and that's a weirdly specific kind of date for an announcement.

I have that episode of Hollywood Babble-On in my queue, hope to play it today... Yeah, it's a pretty weird day for an announcement, I still call BS though.

Still think jackman is awful as wolverine. Don't think ledger 'topped' nicholsons joker at all. Both were very different and great.

But yea, I see what you're saying.

And Ben can suck a big one. Can't remember one movie where I thought 'man, this is one grand performance.'

Jackman was an unknown. How did anyone think he was gonna suck?

I'll give you Ledger. I was skeptical.

Bale as Batman is/was genius and I never doubted if for a second.

My problem with Ben Affleck is that he's a stiff and mediocre actor. He might be great as Batman. But if he is, it'll be the first time I've seen him be great.

i remember all the talk when it was announced spacey was luthor and everyone sucked his dick saying how awesome he's going to be (not on here but on the web)

everyone thought hugh was going to suck cause he was so much taller. the fact is in the books he is 5'4, in the ultimate line he is probably closer to 5'10ish. everyone based the performance on the simple fact he wasnt a runt. in movies certain liberties have to be taken, even though most fan boys dont agree and cry foul. (please note i tried typing foul three times and 2 of the times i typed it as fowl)

i agree ben isnt the strongest actor out there and i have really only seen him in movies like mallrats, J&SB, daredevil (my opinion has been noted what i thought of daredevil) and i maybe watched about 10 minutes of blowing up the meteor/asteroid.

but based on what i saw of him playing daredevil i dont see him doing too bad with bats. they are essentially the same powerset human wise, just a different costume

I don't hate the casting. I want to see what he does with it, obviously. But I'm not excited by it either. It'll depend a lot on the tone of the film and their take on the character. And I think a big part of the issue isn't Ben at all, but the idea of seeing a new Batman so soon after Nolan/Bale.

Whoever steps into the cowl is up against it. And there are better actors. Guys, I'd be excited about seeing. I'm willing to give Ben a fair shot, I'm just not over the moon about it.

Totally. I think he'll be able to handle the Wayne persona, no matter which direction they take it. I do worry about buying the ultra-detective aspect of the character. But maybe they won't play that up.

when i read bats in the comics i just dont hear the growly voice. i hear very quiet, very confident and assured. in theory i understand the need for a growl or a changing of the voice since there isnt anything to muffle or shift his voice. it does make sense, but jeesh. bats in the justice league, they really should just have kevin conroy do voice over work for any batman
