It certainly doesn't shy away from the perspective of both the afflicted family member and those who have to watch/take care. It is nakedly honest emotionally, as this show always is.

I just sped through this series, and it floored me. I knew the reputation it had (that it can get surprisingly dark), but it went places that surprised me. It's almost like the fantastical nature of the world and the mere fact that it's animated allows them to go into illustrating depression in a way that live action shows might find to be too much.

From season 4, the episode where Carolyn's great-great-granddaughter is narrating a story about her day was a killer. Especially the ending.

there are some brutal moments but there are occasionally some tears of joy

Oh yeah, the last moment of this season may be one of the most emotional parts of the entire series. Reading back on the series, I love this reputation it's gotten that everyone has to steel themselves before starting the penultimate episode of each season because by now the episode is going to leave them as a complete wreck by the end.

Another amazing season. Loved pretty much every ep but those with Diane and bojack were really good. Also, princess Carolyn was a highlight this season.

Why there isn't a Bojack Horseman thread?

Because it had a good first season and has been a masterpiece since season 2. Few non-animated series dwelve so deep into the characters like this one. Some episodes are really bold on concept and execution (like the monologue ep of season 5). Get your shit togehter, RMers.

Hooray! Todd Episode in season 4 might have one of my favorite single-episode payoffs

The final season's up. Per usual, this show is an emotional battering ram.

The last two episodes wrap up the show (and encapsulate so much of what it was good at) better than could ever be expected. This show was really something.

After a few years of procrastinating, I'm finally starting to watch this show. Only 3 episodes into S1 now but it's keeping my attention (and more importantly, making me laugh). The universal consensus between critics, fans, RM'ers, etc is that it only gets better so I plan to hang in there for the long run (and avoid spoilers). Kudos to everyone for not dropping any spoilers in this thread yet encouraging me to finally watch the show. Looks to be a good one...
