I, too, have tried listening to this song whilst stoned. I think it made it a little worse. I couldn't hear anything other than the yeah, yeah, yeahs...

I have tried to like that song on many occasions, just can't do it

What I really hate about "The Fixer", more than its dumb chorus and it's twinkly keys and its embarrassing lyrics, is the bridge. I really hate that bridge.

I like the fixer, but that bridge is terrible.

I like that bridge. The weakest part of the fixer is the outdo. I love this song but rarely bother to finish it

Yeah, the bridge is horrifying. It might be the single cheesiest piece of songwriting in the entire catalog. And to insert it into the middle of a Matt song is an abomination. Ruins the song for me.

I just watched The Fixer video again. I thought it would be good for a laugh and at least I could see that redhead with the boobs again, but mostly it just made me really sad. It's like watching a beloved grandparent become consumed by senility and shit himself uncontrollably.

I can't really dispute the argument that "Fixer" accomplishes what it sets out to do. I just think the end result is clumsy, plastic-sounding, melodically grating, and nauseatingly earnest. It's the worst of U2 crossed with the worst of the Foo Fighters, scrubbed of all soul or grit.

Pearl Jam has lost all grit.

And their souls.

I can appreciate a band branching out and trying new things, but that song seems purpose built to ignore all of Pearl Jam's strengths as artists, and magnify all of their weaknesses. Nothing about who Eddie Vedder is could ever help him to write a song like this. The earnestness and preachiness still leaks through the preschool level lyrics. His voice has too much gravity to pull off something so light. They might as well be trying to gangsta rap.

Come on, the intro riff to LTRP? The last verse on My Father's Son? This is a band operating at 5% grit.

I truly hate both of those songs.
