The chorus to Pilate is the albums only major flaw. That song could've been left off. I also think Red Dot is a little grating. I think the idea of an instrumental on this album is great- but I think a short atmospheric guitar piece from Mike would've worked better than Red Dot. I think red dot is weirdness for weirdness sake which the band tended to do a fair amount around this time.

i like the instrumentation and melody of low light, but the lyrics read like someone who is in the process of re-learning language after a traumatic brain injury

The guitar interplay int he chorus of Pilate is fantastic and if you dont agree you can suck a bag of dicks.

yeah, but it's kind of unnecessarily jarring.

I listened to this today. I take back ever saying "Do The Evolution" is overrated. I love the way Eddie's voice is affected throughout the song, and how he seems like he's coming unhinged at times, while gleefully reveling in the wry sarcasm of the tune at others.

it was the first song I heard off of Yield and my first thought was 'oh god, eddie lost his voice'. I was so relieved when I heard other songs.

What does "unnecessarily jarring" sound like in the context of Pearl Jam, stip?

The guitar interplay in the chorus is a G chord and an A sharp chord. Nothing groundbreaking, and it certainly doesn't save the repeated "like pilate I have a dog" over and over again. And I agree that its unnecessarily jarring, because the verses have a nice chill guitar vibe and cool lyrics.

"Walks me out of town, Still, ones a crowd, Making angels in the dirt, Looking up, looking all around...LIKE PILATE I HAVE A DOG!!! LIKE PILATE I HAVE A DOG! etc..

that there is this interesting contemplative piece of music that is floating along in a curiously penetrating way and NOW THE CHORUS IS REALLY LOUD AND ANGRY FOR NO REAL REASON!!!!

You mean like most "grunge" songs?

the bad ones, yes. Pilate was twisted into a grunge format when it didn't have to be.

I kinda like the quirkyness of the actual chorus lyrics.

Pilate's chorus isn't particularly loud or angry, though.

Maybe the first time I heard it; it makes perfect sense to me now. I don't know if I have ever made a connection to it being in a 'grunge' format.
