Detroit is the first time in a long long time where i hear the band from the 90s again. Its like an outtake from one hot minute, sounds funk and psychadelic. Good song.

Dark Necessities, Sick Love, Go Robot, and Detroit are early favorites.

yeah. I always do a little internal eye roll, and then I wonder things like "how many times has he said 'California' in a song, I wonder?", and then I just go back to dancing.

I agree with Trag, i think it was him, in point out that josh is not that interesting at all..i like it live, i like his stuff but in this album there is enough room for him to break out a little more...its all patterns and noises with him.

Still, Encore and Dreams of a samurai are nice too.

After listening to this on youtube a few times, I decided to buy the album. First one of theirs I've purchased since By The Way. I'm actually surprised I did it since I really have very low expectations for anything from this band. But, I'm really digging it the more I listen to it. Don't know what kind of staying power it'll hold, but this will definitely be a nice addition to the summer rotation.

almost 2 weeks in, I've listened to it all the way through 4-5 times. Really like it, think its pretty different for them. Favorites are Dark Necessities, The Longest Wave, Goodbye Angels, and Encore. Sick Love is really growing on me, I think Elton John plays piano on it or some shit.

We really need an "Even More Red Hot Chili Peppers Hilarity" thread.
“Don’t you worry, baby / I’m like Detroit, I’m crazy,” sings Kiedis on “Detroit,” a song that starts out as a decent tribute to the titular city’s storied musical legacy. Unfortunately, the infuriatingly lazy hook totally ruins it, serving as a cautionary tale on why it should no longer be acceptable to rhyme “baby” with “crazy.”

Believe it or not, the song gets worse: “Henry won the war, you see / But not with pen or sword / He did it with a little thing, I think it’s called a Ford” has to be the dumbest f---ing thing anyone has ever written down. Yet, it is there, solidified eternally on the latest album from ’90s alt-rock legends, the Red Hot Chili Peppers

I love this so much I want to quote it needlessly. It's like a joke with a killer punchline.
