Evenflow. MTV. Seems like 21 years ago.
And any ranking of the singles begins and ends with Cliff Poncier.

The song I guess that pulled me in was Nothing as it Seems. I know I had heard Ten at home earlier, but Binaural was probably the first record I went out purposefully to buy for myself. After that, I heard Ten and Vitalogy, which my dad owned, and then went through the catalog in order. So I was all caught up by the middle of 2000.

Nothing as it seems. I was late to the party.

Heard Betterman in the car.
Me: "Is this Hootie and the Blowfish?"
Friend: "No, it's Pearl Jam".
Bought Vitalogy the next day.

While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.

Re: What song is your "gateway drug"?
I'm surprised no one has said this yet but my gateway song to not only Pearl Jam, but Soundgarden, was Hunger Strike. As soon as I identified the players, I bought the all 3 cassettes through Columbia House Record Club.
I believe I just dated myself.

Alive. I was 17 and I heard that solo. After going through a decade of hair metal, this was so full, new, and awesome.

Re: What song is your "gateway drug"?
I started both my cassette collection and later my CD collection through Colombia House and BMG subscriptions. The first three CDs I ever purchased were Vitalogy, STP - Purple, and Nirvana - Unplugged in 1994. I was 14 years old. It took me a few years to re-purchase all my cassettes on CD, but eventually I did. Then in the late '90s I got sucked into the MiniDisc "fad" for a while. I still have a copy of Vs. on MiniDisc to this day! HAHA!

Yeah I got so much of my stuff from BMG in the 90s. 12 CDs for a fucking penny!
