I wonder how Italy, which has already drastically turned against unlimited immigration, will react now that they are swamped with immigrants and no where to send them.

Politically at least, it's hard to overstate what a complete disaster Merkel's welcoming invite to the world in 2015 was. Eastern Europe has completely rejected it, Italy has turned anti-EU, Greece is still a disaster, France is cracking down, and then there is Brexit. Even Scandinavia is instituting more controls. Now even Germans are rejecting her.
