I really enjoy these honestly.
Yeah, that's a lot better than all that overblown emoting in Black etc.
The in hiding lyrics are terrible
Sometimes you are so right, Stip. This isn't one of those times.
Defend them. Do it now!

In Hiding might be my least favorite song on Yield. Back when the album came out, I loved it, and the chorus, but over the years, meh, the song has taken a nose dive.

Ive been thinking about this more and I just can't see the comparisons with Jeremy and In Hiding. Jeremy has a complex vocal line that is constantly moving and doesn't really have a place you'd expect a rhyme. In Hiding is laid out in the most simple of couplets, and he rhymes the first two and randomly doesnt rhyme the third. Ten has a lot of non-rhyming parts but something in the way the vocals are laid out makes me not expect a rhyme, where In Hiding makes me go 'huh?'

Another one I hate is My Father's Son

"I come from a genius, I am my father's son
Yeah, too bad he was a psychopath and now I'm the next in line
Lonely nest dear mother, yes, surely she's a work of art
I never got top dollar, but she gave us all a star"

"Yeah, how's about one conversation with nothing else left to be had
Oh, is this your long lost son, and he's never had dear old dad
I forget the insemination and for that I'm supposed to be glad
What a pity you left us so soon to climb your mountain of regret"

The way its laid out makes it really sound like Eddie is somehow attempting to rhyme "son" with "line" and "glad" with "regret". Im not sure that he isnt. I think its sloppily written despite a nice overall musical composition.

I'm always so transfixed by how dumb the opening lines are that I tend to forget that no...it doesn't get any better as it goes.

Those make "I want for to lay down" sound like Cohen lyrics.

Is it just me though or is he really trying to rhyme "Son" with "line"?! He's either lazy and only bothering to write rhymes for half the lines awkwardly or he thinks these rhyme

Though I guess the way Eddie sings now any two given words can probably end up rhyming somehow

Things don't have to rhyme. Jeremy doesn't rhyme and its great. But this song is laid out in a way to expect a rhyme and then it doesn't, and it doesn't come off like a creative choice it just comes off as lazy

I think it fits with the abrasive, off-kilter composition/sound/themes of the song.
