Loading Zones, Bassackwards, check baby, one trick ponies are fantastic but the rest is a bit of a slog.

Thanks all. I am finishing up Smoke Ring For My Halo. This is easily the most accessible so far, and the songs are really great. Jesus Fever is so good as is Society is My Friend. For the first time so far, I made this vocal approach connection with Thurston Moore, which I guess is not surprising because my first point of reference for Kurt Vile is Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground. Not bad company in the least.

Re: Kurt Vile
Smoke Ring is top tier KV imo. It’s probably tied with Wakin’ for the top spot overall.

A lot of Kurt Vile reminds me of On-The-Beach Neil Young. This is not a complaint.

Listened to So Outta Here and Wakin On a Pretty Daze yesterday. Both were fantastic. The album was long and very consistent sonically, but also very smooth so that it didn’t feel like a drag at any point. Currently listening to It’s a Big World Out There.

Thanks, even if it is supercharged and less detailed than usual.

Wakin' on a Pretty Daze is probably my favorite -- love those long, lingering go-nowhere jams. "Goldtone" is probably my favorite KV tune.

Yeah I really liked the bookends of that album in particular. Goldtone and Wakin on a Pretty Day were really fabulous.Kevin Davis wrote:Wakin' on a Pretty Daze is probably my favorite -- love those long, lingering go-nowhere jams. "Goldtone" is probably my favorite KV tune.

Wheelhouse
One Trick Ponies
Baby's Arms
Peeping Tomboy
Life Like Mine
Pure Pain
I'm an Outlaw
Never listened to any of those EP's -- I should rectify that.

I'm a big fan of So Outta Reach because it's a nice companion piece to Smoke Ring.Kevin Davis wrote:liebzz wrote:Never listened to any of those EP's -- I should rectify that.Kevin Davis wrote:Wakin' on a Pretty Daze is probably my favorite -- love those long, lingering go-nowhere jams. Huncback Ep is pretty great as well. If you find the 2013 reissue w/live tracks, definitely worth a listen.

I've also never really listened to anything pre-Smoke Ring so maybe there is a KV mini-marathon to be had in the near future here

Re: Kurt Vile
Snowflakes Extended off it’s a big world out there EP was a really good one, as is Never Run Away and The Ghost of Freddie Roach, which is where I am at now.
Edit: now pretty much through that and Parallelogram - both pretty cool EPs. I probably won’t get through all this today for tomorrow’s release, but I might get there for the afternoon.
