It's just a New Orleans Jazz/Funk/Rock band where the lead guy is a fantastic trombone player and singer. The songs are fun. You are guaranteed to like it.

one thing i hate about sxsw is the prep work one needs to do for this. most of these bands ive never fucking heard of. who is playing where? do i need to rsvp? is it free? is a wristband or badge required? is there free beer? is there free bar b q? etc. it can be a pain in the ass. especially with shit announced every single day from here on out. but ive found that going downtown blind usually results in a shitty night.

so far all ive got is Jim James and the Flaming Lips for FREE at auditorium shores.

 Two that you must check out, for sure!
So they have shows all over town for SXSW? There's something similar in Raleigh that seems pretty interesting, but what a cluster trying to get from show to show. Does it work out pretty well if that's how it's setup?

sxsw is a massive cluster fuck. i know locals who actually go out of town on their vacations during sxsw week. but they are old grumpy non music fan fucks. sxsw is the one time of the year i actually ride the bus downtown. lol. cause there is no parking to be had downtown. at least not at a reasonable price.

there are showcases and day parties everywhere. every single bar and venue downtown has something going on day and night it seems. odd examples from last year, i saw Of Monsters and Men at a fucking bicycle shop and Ume at fucking whole foods and Gary Clark Jr and The Cult in the parking lot of a record store.

getting from show to show can be a pain in the ass. once you are downtown, you are pretty much on foot. i do a ton of walking that week. hell, ive been going for walks every day this month in preparation. :D

plus half the time, you walk up, and the place is at capacity, one out, one in, with a line around the corner, as was with where ever the alabama shakes were playing last year. so you gotta have a plan B, C, D, etc and i tend to have it all mapped out as well, cause of the walking.

hence...
but ive found that going downtown blind usually results in a shitty night.

It does sound like an experience to say the least. Surely you get to meet a bunch of random people, which is pretty sweet.
How many bands are you typically able to see in a day? Seems like it would cut into some show time if you are running all over town trying to get from spot to spot.

i meet people from all over the world while waiting for bands, and i tend to be introverted around strangers.

anywhere from 3 or 4 a day to one day last year i saw 8 bands, from noon to midnight. a lot of these bands will play several to many times during sxsw week. one year wild flag played 8 shows in a 4 day span, nuts. so there are a ton of opportunities to see if a certain band. sometimes, if the schedules work out, ill stay in a particular area, or even venue, for the day or night.
