Count me in as a vote for these:

Yellow Ledbetter from Tibetan Freedom show
Matt performance of Black
SOLAT Melbourne 98
Using performances that are more unique, and less "definitive"

Also, i caught a bit of the London, Ontario 2005 show this morning on Sirius (even though it was labeled as 6-28-03?? - took me a while to find the right show). First off, they performed everything outstanding. They were really peaking in 2005. But, importantly for this thread, the version of Hard to Imagine from this show needs to be nominated. I was at the Chicago '09 show, and that version was great, too, but this is when the song was still nuanced and becoming mature. The perfect blend. Check it out.

And, please, please, please, use a Present Tense when the first verse/chorus was soft and meaningful, before Eddie starting yelling the first chorus.

I've been going through the '05 shows and listened to London earlier this week on the walk to and from work. It's an immaculate show, and has been one of my favorites for a long time. The "Off He Goes" has one of my favorite EV vocal moments: When he sings "...and he's still strong," he does this vaguely gymnastic thing with his voice that I would never think he'd be capable of pulling off with such dexterity. Worth considering for the comp if no Jack versions are suitable.

I bet about a good third to a half of my favorite performances from the band are from the 2005 tour.

Pearljambootlegs.org is a great source for giving everyone's recommendations a quick listen.

...and those performances are?

I am at a loss when it comes to the 2005 boots.

I love the ones I have heard (especially Philly), but I have no idea where to go from there, and I don't care enough (nor do I have the time) to go through them all.

I'm awful at recalling specific versions. I just remember the band being very tight for most of that tour.

I really love the first encores from these shows. The main sets are fine, solid, but as far as I know this is the first tour where they really played up the "mellow first encore" thing (VFC is where it started, I guess), and Eddie really, really sings well -- not just well, but creative, playing with the melodies in a way that I'm not sure he has before or since. Some favorites are:

Thumbing My Way -- Calgary
Trouble -- Montreal
Gone -- Atlantic City
Off He Goes -- London
Around the Bend -- Philly
Most versions of "Man of the Hour" and "Hard to Imagine"

Insignificance is really strong on that tour as well.

Absolutely. Lock this one down.

"Sleight of Hand" from this show is also great, if we edit out the false start.

Since today seems to be 2005 tour day for me, I just picked one at random, Hamilton, 9/13/05.

And I do believe this version of Present Tense is perfect. I officially nominate it.

I have that Present Tense on my spreadsheet! Plus the BRY from London '05.

I also had 8/29/00 for Rival. Glad to be thinking like some of you.

it's a great version aside from the clapping fucking up Ed and him having to stop and restart the song in the middle of it
