They need to relearn their own catalogue. Covers should be a rarity.

I think they could nail it if they don't play it too fast.
I immediately sang it to Riders on the Storm.stip wrote:my daughter (2) just wrote her first song. It bears a passing resemblance to the farmer in the dell, but no more than given to fly/going to california

They play it right be sure as fuck don't nail it.cutuphalfdead wrote:I don't think I want to hear Pearl Jam cover anything new at this point. Basically because of the way Ed sings. Even when they nail it, like they did with Mother, I still can't get passed the breathy-ness and warble of Ed's voice. Plus, when they nail a song like Mother, it's just a straight on version of a played to death classic rock song, there's nothing special about that.
YES! This soooooooooooooooo much.Strat wrote:I think Pearl Jam is a good cover band. They do a good job at it. So much that I think they should start covering Pearl Jam circa 1991-2003.

I know you're not a fan of the last couple records, so I'm curious, how would you have wanted them to evolve? I'm not being facetious at all. I ask because I find myself thinking that same thing, like if they had gone in the direction of writing more songs in the vein of Sleight of Hand, Of The Girl, You Are, etc.cutuphalfdead wrote:I don't think I want to hear Pearl Jam cover anything new at this point. If I want them to cover something I want it to be a little bit out there. Even if it's a pretty standard song in terms of it's arrangement, I don't need to hear them do another Who or Neil Young or Pink Floyd song. I'm thinking more along the terms of Timeless Melody from the 2k tour. But even then, I don't know how much I'd enjoy it the way Ed sings now.
If Pearl Jam evolved they way I wanted them to, and they way I thought they were evolving in the early aughts, I'd have a nice little list of songs I'd love to hear them perform.
