Guys, the RnRHoF is a bullshit institution and any band should be embarrassed by their inclusion, however Matt really doesn't deserve to get in for his work in Pearl Jam. What they achieved creatively in the period before he joined monumentally outweighs everything during his time in the band. Even now, the vast majority of the band's setlist on any given night relies upon songs created with either Dave Krusen, Dave Abbruzzese or Jack Irons on the drums. Matt just wasn't there for the important years.
so agree w/ all of this

There is a strange irony about someone complaining about how dumb the RnR Hall of Fame is while also ranting about how this member or that member should be included.

Dave A's impact on Pearl Jam is never going to be taken away from him/the fans/the band.

He's on record. He toured. You can't change that. The fans know that and thats all that matters.

Birds in Hell wrote:I think that "live band culture" thing is a bit abstract for fans outside of the US; they didn't tour Europe at all for Yield or during the six years between Binaural and S/T and haven't played a really comprehensive tour of Australia since 2006.
According to setlist.fm, The Grateful Dead played 2320 shows over their 30 year career, and only 90 of them took place outside North America. Their reputation as a live touring band precedes them nonetheless. Moreover, PJ haven't really done a comprehensive tour of anywhere since 2006; the Australian tours are still as proportional as they've always been to their tours of larger continents.

That said, I agree that it's a little abstract but abstractly is how these things register with people -- it's not like someone on the panel is sitting there with a calculator adding up how many dates they've played and whether those dates were proportionally distributed across various land masses. Their prevailing reputation (generally regarded as great live band, rabid lemming-like fanbase, shit-ton of live CD's) is indeed what defines their "fame," the thing which this award celebrates, not precise statistics.

Then maybe the criteria for inclusion should be 55 instead of 25 years after an artist's first album. But then we're all going to have egg on our face thirty years later still when that band Stip likes with the album "Laid" is what all the trendies are latching onto.

2) 'Pearl Jam' isn't supposed to care about awards.

3) Dave A should be included and if he is not; people damn well better start a "DAVE A-BBRUZZ-ESE" chant at the arena

4) BROOKLYN IS SOOOO HIP!!!!! OMGNYC!!!!!!!!! ARTISINALITY ALERT!!!! ARTISINALITY ALERT!!!!! PRICE CHECK AISLE 12 ON CRAFT WARES!!!! PRICE CHECK AISLE 12 ON CRAFT WARES!!!!

Agree with Spenno mostly here guys. This whole affair is going to be awkward for the band and awkward for the fans.

Ed will mumble something about not knowing how to process this, he'll thank a few specific people (Uncle Neil and Jack) and be vague about a few others, he'll maybe point at Kelly and probably look at the roof when mentioning Andy (he'd have loved this). Then Stone will jump in as almost an afterthought and thank the 2 Dave's (Krusen and Abbruzzesse) and laugh goofily. Mike will roll his eyes while Jeff strokes his chin and Matt nods reverently.

I suppose I just choose to view it as, this is a band that's meant a lot to me in my life, and they're having a moment in culture now that sheds some light on what they've contributed to the world. Sure, I think it is tasteless to leave out Dave and Jack, but it's still a pretty uncomplicated, knee-jerk "hey, this is cool"-type reaction from me. I don't really understand having a strong cynical reaction to this -- artists far more "respectable" than Pearl Jam have turned up for this thing, had a nice time, and quietly resumed whatever they were doing the next day. What's the big deal?

I don't think this 'means' anything overall. All that will happen is remind some people of the band's existense and potentially raise ticket demand and prices for the next tour/s.

Hopefully this can be the end of their lap of honour PJ20 return to form etc period and they can head for the ditch again.

It took you a while to get there, Kev, but you finally landed on the only response to a "rock and roll hall of fame" that makes sense:

There'll be much more recognition of him this time compared to his footnote in PJ20:

"so, we, uh, had a guy, uh, named Dave, who, uh, played on a couple albums, and, uh, we want to say thanks to him and hope he's well."

Is there a special room in the HOF for bands that put out a great double album of new material? There should be.

I'll find out.

If he doesn't, we should send him a mix tape that'll get him hooked.
