I am not sure why I am compelled to make this post, but I am going to anyway. I listened to Beneath The Pines, Her Mercy, Stay The Road, Winning Streak , Paying My Way about ten times each last night. Why? Well a year ago my life took a sharp turn. I was diagnosed with a disease that has no cure. It is far from the worst thing out there, but it isn't wedding cake either. I don't believe it will be the end of me, but it could who knows? I am required to take medicine that is complete crap. The positive is that I have had to focus very intently on diet and exercise so I am now in the best shape of my life. It is hard not to become the illness as it isn't well understood, so as a patient you become a bit of a researcher it is endless really. So over the last 12 months I have leaned on music as a way to cope. I put my mp3 player on and run and run as much as I can. Songs became battle cries songs lifted me up. Glen's music was a part of this. This was a very select group of songs to help pull me along. Glen had a couple as did Pearl Jam and maybe 10 other total songs that really helped along the way. Then I heard this new record. It is like a opera I would write these songs speak to me as a group of songs like no other album ever has. I can not tell you how good they are. I can not judge them that way as they are a part of me. I guess made this post as tribute to five good friends that I will always carry with me. Thank you Beneath The Pines, Her Mercy, Stay The Road, Paying My Way and Winning Streak

I wanted to come in and make a smartass comment to his post but I can't. That is beautiful and i certainly can relate. Also, Glen Hansard has a way of attaching to your soul with a voice like his.

Love when music does that for you. Great post Tj. I'll make sure he sees it.
My little ruin and lowly deserter are my big two. But the whole thing, each song shines on its own and the entire record hangs so well. It's a really good one.

Yes all the songs are really cool funny I find the other songs to be musically deeper than the five I am so connected to. Just To Be The One is musically one of my favorites. My Little Ruin reminds me of the Police in a strange way.
This is the best song on Glens new album and here's the new video for it..this gig was awesome..in a dilapidated old Georgian house here in Dublin..
if you only check out one song on this album let this be the one.

You wont regret it. last night was one of the most powerful and beautiful show's ive seen in a long time. He is just incredible at what he does. So passionate. Amazing voice. Knows how to work a crowd. When he steps off the mic and sings.....man alive.

oh, i know i won't regret it. last time i saw him was at first ave last year and i'm kind of disappointed he's in a seated theater and not there again this time around, he clearly really enjoyed playing there. but whatever, i'm excited for the show, even moreso since i lost track of when it was and that it's actually only a few days away.
the new album is great, btw. dime is not incorrect in saying my little ruin is a standout.
