0.000000000001% of bands have lasted 30+ years. There isn’t really a blueprint.

Maybe they are following the blueprint? Take The Rolling Stones, by this point would be 1995ish?

Steel Wheels (1989) —> Voodoo Lounge (1994) —> Bridges to Babylon (1997) —> A Bigger Bang (2005) —> Blue and Lonesome (2016)

Lightning Bolt (2013) —> Gigaton (2020) —> ?? (2023?)

They all have lots of money and basically no job. I'm sure it's not actually difficult for them to get together if they actually want to.
Kids. They have kids.

As a parent, I can guarantee you that's most of the reason right there.
As a parent, I really don't think so. It's not like he's a single dad of two toddlers.
He? There's at least four of them with kids.

They owe us EVERYTHING! If not for us, Jeff would still be making café lattés and mochaccinos. Mike would still be sitting around practicing Eruption and Stevie Ray’s version of Little Wing. Stone would be an intern at his dad’s law office and Ed would be pumping gas somewhere. (Oregon I guess since it’s required by state law).

Matt would still be a kickass rock ‘n’ roll drummer.

Absolutely, by modern Pearl Jam standards. One would say this is…forthcoming.

Listening to the new Iggy Pop record, which is actually pretty fun.

After hearing Andrew Watt's work on this and on Earthling, I feel like the next PJ record is going to be their glossiest ever, isn't it? Not sure how I feel about it but if the songs are there, I guess it could work.

i listened to the new iggy once and there was some cool moments but overall i prefer Post Pop Depression as a big comeback album.

I do appreciate the personnel in the new one and i want to see the credits.

i wouldnt rule Josh E out yet. Both Jeff and Mike talked about him being on some sessions or present in the album too.

My estimation is that 60-70% of what people consider as a good or bad sounding album are choices being made in the mix. The other 30-40% are engineering, chosen sounds etc...

So yes, Im not a fan of the Earthling mix or this new Iggy Pop mix. But with Andrew Watt producing it's still an option they will look for a different route on mixing, perhaps Josh Evans.

The reason it takes them so long to release an album is because you have to wait for a turd to harden before you can polish it. So they write the songs and let them sit for a while and mature. If you try and polish a soft turd, it will just smear everywhere.

Lyrics for the new album:

Once I stood angry and standoffish
Then I learned
Love is like a turd
You have to wait to polish

Who are we? Who we are
Seen it all, not at all
Can't defend fucked up men
Driving winds, happenstance
Off the track, in the mud
So, I would say you've got a part
What's your part? Who you are
You are who, who you are
