Stupid question and I’m sure this thread answers it somewhere… but is the Stevie of this song Stevie Ray Vaughan or Stevie Wonder?

It’s Stevie Wonder. Legend has it Stevie was late to his recording session w Ed for “Try” during the Earthling sessions. Ed and Wot jammed while they waited and realized they had the same riff, or something like that. The result was one of the greatest Pearl Jam songs ever made. The title sucks. They should’ve called it “Wonder When.”

Can just imagine it being about Stevie Nicks (especially after losing Christine) even though they said it's not. Can just imagine her singing it as well, almost like it's a tribute to her singing style.

My take is that the working title was always 'waiting for Stevie (Wonder)'. But the song is written through the eyes of a young woman, like his daughter. A young woman who was seeing Stevie Nicks as a inspiration... Hence he kept the working title...

Hmmm. Guess I have to listen to it again with that theory in mind.

coming off my post show highs, I was blasting this in the car driving home from work. And I would argue that this song best approximates the experience of seeing pearl jam live more than any other song in their catalog
Not their best live song. but the best at capturing what is best about that live moment

You know it's funny- Upper Hand may be right there with it. That song feels like a mini-PJ concert to me.

I think its about young girl seeing TSwift live and finding that community.
It even has the lyric "shake em off"

Or, it’s about Swift and her never ending search for true love and companionship.

weird how this one just completely fell off the setlists of this last tour, particularly how much it got talked about in the press and interviews after the release of DM

Fans seem to love the shit out of it, too. So, it's weird.
I wonder if the band likes it or if they just feel like it doesn't totally translate live? It's interesting, though.

I think it's just really difficult to sing. The better question is, should this count as a cover when played live?
