Didn't the band record of version with Jack during Yield? If so, has that ever surfaced? I always felt the song needed a little Jack fixin' to truly make it one of the best. I still love the song mind you, and am quite fond of some of the live versions (Lubbock 2000, Philly3 2009, Detroit 2000), but if the song had a little Jack on it, I think it would put it a bit higher in my liking rankings.

Yeah, i think they recorded Parting Ways in 96 with Jackie...could be a cool outtake, but im really fond of Matt“s work in Binaural.
Its pretty amazing...and i guess the song really have strong meaning for Ed back in 2000.

The top 2 are the ones I would want to put on RIGHT NOW:
Rival
God's Dice
The following tier is artistically untouchable:
Grievance
Sleight of Hand
Of the Girl
Nothing As It Seems
Insignificance
Just a touch beneath those:
Parting Ways
Thin Air
These are fine but don't light my world on fire:
Light Years
Evacuation
Breakerfall
Soon Forget

The Chicago '00 version of Parting Ways may be one of my favorite things the band has done. Mike sounds absolutely perfect in the outro. I do wish they'd mined that sound a bit more than they have thus far.

I like it quite a bit. Still my least favorite on here, though.

This, basically. I've got no real issue with it; it's a nice little ditty with lyrics that waver between amusing and sort of alarming depending on mood and context. Alongside everything else on the record, though, it's clearly nothing more than an interlude or an aside.

This album still fascinates me. For me, I consider it the last one one where the band still carried a mystique.
