What's funny is that it's easily a top 5 SY album for me, but I came up with nothing on Strat's mix.

What's even funnier is that it's probably one that he'd really connect with.

It's easy in the context of most of their catalog, but I need to remember that it's still a catalog mostly devoid of hits. I suppose you're right.

Man, who could resist a one-two punch of "Shadow of a Doubt" and "Pacific Coast Highway?" I'd suggest throwing "Beauty Lies in the Eye" in that same sequence but I don't want Strat's heart to explode out of its chest.

Damn. You're right.
Strat, I've made a new mixtape for you. "Made" being a very loose term. I sincerely hope you enjoy it.

Alrighty. I've put a little bit more work into this one. I think it's a better intro, made specifically for Strat and anyone else who might want to dip their toes into the discography without getting too overwhelmed. I tried to stick to songs with more melody than noise, while still preserving a lot of the artiness and no wave spirit that permeates their catalog.
This mix doesn't really give anything away in terms of surprises or left turns in the career, and it largely ignores the early stuff. I forget that, even as a fan of this band my entire adult life, I too had to discover the early and very noisy stuff only after devouring and digesting their "hits". Burning Spear or I'm Insane might have worked on here, though...
I also wanted to give Lee more representation here. I really wanted to work in Mote, but that one's probably not a good intro. I also wanted to work in Hoarfrost, but that one is huge momentum killer and didn't work in with the vibe I was going for here. I was pushing it with Saucer-Like, but the spoken word poetry on that one has some of my favorite lines. It's a primer for something like NYC Ghosts & Flowers (which I left off entirely) while still having a bit of a rhythm section. I just had to put it in there. "I had a wonderful vision of the city today..."
Hopefully this mix is high energy but with some breathers at specific places. That was the intent, anyway.
KD and Ruddo both get shout outs. I included their chosen "best representative song" selections here. It would have a been a crime not to.
Strat -- If you haven't played my other mix yet, play this one first. Trust me. Go for the other mix afterwards. There's minimal crossover.

I regret not putting Tuff Gnarl on either playlist.
I also don't remember if I put Little Trouble Girl on the more palatable playlist. If I didn't, I should have.

Giving No Home Record a spin today. Hard to understate how exciting it was to hear Murdered Out when it first dropped.

Enjoy it. I may put the second mix on for my run as well.
Avoid track one on the first mix if you're gunning for negative splits.

So I just ran two miles with the first mix, starting at Tunic. I set a 2 mile PR, so something works here!
First mile was the slow burn/build up of Kim songs, leading into Youth Against Fascism and Hey Joni to pick up the pace on the second mile. As luck would have it, I hit the final stretch just as Lee yells "KICK IT" at the end of Hey Joni and was able to sprint all the way through.
Next song, Rain on Tin, is an EXCELLENT cool down stretch jam.
I didn't intend for any of this to work out like it did, but now I really like the heart of this first mix.
Thanks for the idea to run to this, verb. Hope you get something out of it too.
