Down here alot of the earth is loose and sandy, that corner was one of those spots.
*edit* the trails are really awesome, there's areas that go through pine woods and vales like the one I posted and others that go through thick deep woods. Thats my favorite area, hilly, twisty, rutty and rooty. plus it follows a creek.
I live in a suburb of Vancouver, BC and we literally have the world's best downhill biking here. We get tons of rain so we get used to washed out corners. The maintained trails try to stay natural by using rock rather than pvers. Our downhill stuff gets pretty wild. I incorporate a 45 minute dowhill ride into my commute twice a week. It pops out less than a mile from my door. It is a pretty awesome way to walk in the door, covered in mud and soaked with every work worry lost in the woods.
There's shit on the North Shore hills that you just have to be nuts to do. It's all free if your willing to bike up first. Then there's Whistler bike park. I think it's rated the best bike park in the world. They have stuff that I am flat out scared to do.
Yeah you got us beat. It's coastal plains down here but it starts getting hilly 10 miles inlands which is where the national forest begins. Not mountainous or even large differences in elevations but enough to be a challenge endurance wise and create some good flow. The've added some nice obstacles over the years, a see-saw, jumps on alternate pathways and the like.
It's not tops as far as the singletrack world goes but I feel lucky to have the trails at all.
We're spoiled here but a flowy single track can be fun. Racing your friends for beers. Hopefully the guys maintaining the trails no how to properly build the jumps. There's something about hitting gap jumps that just gets me off. Maybe because I only learned how at 45 but I love looking back and seeing I just cleared an eight or ten foot gap (and that's as long as I'll go).
If you like singletrack, get out to Moab. The have a trail called the Whole Enchillada, over 50 miles long and all but 7 miles with a downhill descent. Everything I've ridden there is fun and you don't have to be that good to be able to enjoy. Slick Rock is fun if a little boring after a few hours. Poison Spider is my fave. I could ride that everyday and not get bored.

I know all about Moab. Its one of the meccas! Honestly I just can't afford to travel a whole lot but it's something I want to do in the next 10 years.
You're 45 and hitting 10 footers? Rad! The biking thing is a natural extension of my skateboarding days. I don't have the devil may care attitude I had then (kickflipping 8 stairs and a sidewalk, rails) but I'll nail a gap. Most of the ramps they have built are incorporated into natural berms so they hit real nice. Think we should make a mountain biking thread?

10 miles in 70 minutes
It was hot, so I hit the treadmill for the first time in about a month. Set the treadmill to just under 7-minute miles and off I went. Things went swimmingly until mile 7, then it became a struggle. I rewarded myself with little sips of water every 5 minutes and that broke things up nicely. Finished in just under 70.
It was a little surreal to be running and watching the news on the Boston Marathon bombing at the same time.
For most runners, no stupid fucking bomb can destroy the mystique of the Boston Marathon. Those fuckers can't kill my desire to be there one day.

Lots of fruits and veggies! Bean based soups, salmon, long grain rices (just a little) a bit of a detox cleanse but nothing serious and i give myself some freedoms so I dont go batshit fucking crazy. But right now is a good time to reboot the system. After a long winter.....

Got in a really good one last night after an off day Monday. I've increased my weights the past couple weeks & I'm starting to tell a difference. At the risk of sounding like a high school jock it's a great time of year to know you're toning up.

Huh?
Because the plank is a static bodyweight exercises it quickly loses its potency once you reach a certain strength level, and then you’re pretty much just hanging out.
If you can already hold the plank for 30-60 seconds and you’re not looking to set a Guinness world record then try switching to exercises that challenge your stability dynamically, like a set of push-ups or more difficult variations of the plank.
Hmmmmm. The only time in my life I actually had a 6-pack was from doing planks exclusively as ab work. The plank will not "lose its potency" if you mix things up with variation. I also use planks to build stamina.
And to be honest, the notion that if you can to do it for 30 to 60 seconds then you can set a "world record" is crazy. When I was doing them for 1:30, I'd be feeling great at 30, feeling like shit at 60 and holding on for dear life at 90. Even at my most fit, doing them for more than 2 minutes or so would result in me wobbling and falling to the floor in a heap of sweat.
Just quoting something I'd read somewhere. I tend to do them adding in reaching taps alternating the arms - that pretty much kills me after 30 or so....
im pretty sure what you quoted was totally wrong

i just saw this article online somewhere recently also. but i have heard it for years now.
the only planks i'll do, very rarely, are in between sets of situps with alternating leg raises. and that's because i get bored.
good old variations of situps, weighted twists, and ab roller using a barbell. wahoooo!

How many sets of planks? How many reps?
