I liked the Lego Movie well enough. But it certainly didn't inspire or impress me the way it did others. It was exactly fine. Better than it had any right to be. That's my only experience with Lord and Miller. So, yeah, I have no reason to have any great confidence in them. Nor do I have any reason to think they're out of their depth or anything like that. They seemed to make all the sense in the world, to me, as Star Wars directors.

See, they never made sense to me for a star wars director unless they wanted to make a super lighthearted and goofy version of Star Wars.
Surfs up was great and Lego movie was good.

Still down?
Or it could be that they were just doing a horrible job and as the finished product became more clear, they had to go.
I dont know. Haven't all the other directors had wonderful things to say?
The re-shoot drama of Rogue ONe turned out to be not very dramatic at all and Gareth was in on it.
Weren't a lot of those re-shoots intended to create little nods to fans, like R2 and C3PO? And then the whole thing with Riz Ahmed and the penis tentacle monster that never gets mentioned again? I enjoyed R1 very much, but to my understanding, every problem that existed in the movie was a direct result of re-shoots and studio meddling.
Perhaps, but none of that had to do with the director feeling creatively stifled.

But Star Wars has always been lighthearted. And it can be super goofy, too. These guys bring a lot of energy and color and pop. These are all things Star Wars offers.

From what I have read, Kasdan is nearly impossible to work with, so I can see him taking over.

I was going over the top but I think there is a bit of truth in what I said but yeah they could have done a horrible job for sure.
A great majority of directors endorse the company they've worked for in order to ensure they have opportunities down the road. Sometimes you can find something from 'sources' that shed some truth to it though.
I try to not pay much attention to what people say to reporters about working for Disney, Warner Bros., and on and on. It's just part of the game to be positive about your work experience or at least paint over your negative experience by using vague language like 'creative differences.'
"I had a wonderful experience working for Disney."
Unnamed source: "It was awful. Never again."

He may not be able to though because of DGA rules.

This movie felt like a bad idea from the beginning, but Disney won't go anywhere near the prequel timeline for movies.

Do we think this increases or decreases the likelihood of Han Solo footage at D23 or Comic-Con?

Decreases and I would bet on it being moved back to X-mas 2018. Would Edgar Wright takeover the project?

Of course it decreases it.

I was kidding.
I agree about December 2018.
100% not. No chance.

Weren't some of the reshoots also an expansion of the final third of the movie, or did that happen prior?

Without having seen the footage it's hard to judge how warranted this is. I've only seen the lego movie with these guys but I love that film. They do seem like an odd fit for a Han Solo movie. It's not that they're too humorous, but theirs is a frentic and bulldozing kind of humor that might be a bit much for a Star Wars movie.
Of greater interest to me is Kasden's comment about the character. Did they re-imagine Han in a way that isn't true to the character, or is this kasden being petulant and not sharing?
Maybe these guys would have been better choices for a bounty hunter movie where you are playing within the universe without having to fit your character work into premade molds. Han, Chewie, and Lando exist, and these earlier versions of the character need to reflect the people they become.

Just hire that hack Joss Whedon since he has no personality and is willing to bring his profitable brand of banality to any troubled project that may have had potential

Joss Weedon isn't a good fit for Star Wars either, though. Good star wars writing has a voice, and it's not Weedon's.

Pretty sure he's busy, though.
